GREETINGS!
Here's your last and final summer blog to respond to in connection with the story "Lord Of The Flies"...in case this is the book you are currently reading...
PHATIC COMMUNICATION: Exchanges or conversation designed primarily not to transmit information, but rather to reinforce social bonds, signal the beginning or end of a conversation, or engage in ritual activities. For instance, if we pass a stranger in the hallway and say, "Hi, howya doing?" and pass on after a nod, the linguistic exchange was not an actual request for data, but merely a politeness acknowledging the other's presence. Similarly, "thanks for stopping by" or "you're welcome, come again" are all social lubricants to ease the transition to and from ritual activity rather than attempts at factual communication. Phatic communication is the term for this phenomenon.
"Focusing on any scene from this story, what good and clear example of a PHATIC COMMUNICATION can you give based on the given definition on top? Within the entire story, there are good examples to support this concept of phatic communication, which is why this posting is going to be another "first-come, first serve basis only" posting---this means that once an example has already been given, as usual, it cannot be used by anyone else. Please make sure to read the postings first before you put your own blog so that you will not end up wasting your time...?!"
That's All Folks...! Take care and be safe always. I cannot wait to see ALL of you next week---BE READY FOR ME! STUDY-STUDY-STUDY...but do not neglect to enjoy your final days of vacation too...! Oh, and by the way, we are having our Literary Terms Test next week, our Novel Tests, and two to three Paragraph Writing Tests. Remember...next week marks the first day of the rest of your life in Grade 9 with me...CIAO!!!

1. "You are a silly boy," said the Lord of the Flies,...It meant to me that Simon might be change into something or get in danger.
2. And when they all felt something strange (they lost one friend), they were scared and kept talking and talking.

This is for TONY.
"Hi" it said. "Wait a minute"!
The undergrowth at the side of the scar was shaken and a multitude of raindrops fell pattering.
"wait a minute" The voice said "I got caught."
The fair boy stopped and jerked his stockings with an automatic gesture that made the jungle seem for a moment like the Home Counties.
The voice spoke again.
"I can't hardly move with all these creeper things"

"Are you sure? Really sure, I mean?"
Piggy began the conversation by questioning Ralph.

In page 117, Ralph ended their conversation with --- "If only they could get a message to us," cried Ralph desperately. "If only they could send us something grownup... a sign or something."

"Supposing the beast's is up there?"
Jack brandished his spear.
"We'll kill it."
The sun seemed a little cooler. He slashed with a spear.
"What are we waiting for?"

"D'you think we're safe down here?"
"How the hell should I know?"
When Piggy ask Ralph about the beast. Piggy is a kind of kid that scared almost everything that he did not sure. He ask Ralph agian and agian, although how many times Ralph have answer. Piggy should have known already but he still ask.
At the end of the story the officer end up with the word "I know. Jolly good show. Like the Coral island." He cut Ralph's sentence show that he understand what happen (but Jack!?).

When Piggy called Ralph "Ralph-", he started a conversation by calling his name. This is a common way to start a conversation.

Pg. 200 When Ralph and the naval officer met.
'The officer looked at Ralph doubtfully for a moment, then took his hand away from the butt of the revolver.
"Hullo."
Squirming a little, conscious of his filthy appearance, Ralph answered shyly.
"Hullo."
The officer nodded, as if a question had been answered.'

(pg.134) "I'm cheif. We've got to make certain. Can't you see the mountain? There's no signal showing. There may be a ship out there. Are you all off you rockers?"
Mutinously, the boys fell silent or muttering
Jack led the way down the rock and across the bridge.
Ralph is telling his people to realize that there might be a ship out there buit he did not want answers from them.

Piggy leaned down to him.
"What's yer name?"
"Johnny."
This is when they first meet and trying to know each other.

pg.6-When the fat boy said that he wants to know everyone named to Ralph.
But did not take the hint so the fat boy was forced to continue.
I don’t care what they call me, so long as they don’t call me what they used to call me at school.
So Ralph was faintly interested and ask him what they call you in your old school.
The fat boy glanced over his shoulder, then leaned toward Ralph.
He whispered.
They use to call me “Piggy”.
This is when Piggy meet with Ralph and trying to know each other.
"Am i a hunter or Am i not?" They nodded, simply. He was a hunter all right. No one doubted that. "Well then i've been all over this island. By myself." I think this is phatic communication.
Hi!it said ,wait aminute!
the undergrowth that the side of the scar was shaken and a multitute of raindrops fell patering
"Wait a minute ," the voice said ,"i got caught up"
